What’s in my Diaper Bag…for Me!

Yes, okay, I’m carrying a diaper bag around MOSTLY for my child, but I secretly enjoy it.

Why do I enjoy it?

Because I’ve always liked carrying gigantic huge are enough to carry a handbag).

When I was younger, I used to lug around my camcorder and empty tapes, my CD player (miss those), notebooks, and a ton of Mountain Dew (used to love that stuff-not so much now).

NOW I get to do it again and not look awkward carrying a backpack around for no obvious reason. Do I still carry a ton of stuff for Mariam? Well, yes. But I also carry a few things for myself because, let’s face it, I need pick-me-ups too.

This is what I like to have in my diaper bag on an ideal day out. These items make me happy and give me better coping skills than if I didn’t have them in my bag.

What’s in my diaper bag…for me:

1. Kindle (or a book)

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve pulled into the driveway and baby girl has FINALLY fallen asleep. Instead of waking her up and risking her not finishing her nap in the house, I would choose to sit in the car until she would wake. Having my Kindle (or book) gives me the opportunity to catch up on some well-deserved reading.

I’m currently trying to finish a great book recommended to me by a fellow mama blogger called Montessori from the Start: The Child at Home, from Birth to Age Three.

2. Healthy Snacks

So part of being a mom is the need to take care of yourself food-wise. I always want to feel like I’m eating somewhat healthy, even if that means I’m only snacking healthy that day. Trail mix is great for an on-the-go snack, and granola bars are just as helpful and easy to throw in my bag.

Belvita bars are usually my go-to. The banana bread and coconut ones are my fav!

3. A “Cheat” Snack

You have to have something indulgent in your bag because you never know when you’ll be craving a favorite. I like to keep chocolate or a salty snack for this. Chips are one of my guilty pleasures, so having a small bag makes me feel better about whatever situation we may be in that day (yeah, I know it’s emotional eating. I’m getting there.)

4. D.O for my B.O

It took me one good time for me to learn this lesson. Long story short, I needed deodorant because it was too hot and feeling like I smell throws off my focus and good mood. A little too personal? Come on, everyone needs D.O.

Toms makes good aluminum-free deodorants. Sometimes, I have to use ones with perspirants though, depending on how hot it is that day or how hard I’ll be working.

5. Chapstick

This is especially helpful for me for the upcoming colder months. And a little chapstick goes a long way when you’re trying to look more put-together.

I like to get my chapsticks from the Sprouts supermarket. They have pretty good ingredients and aren’t heavy on the flavor (just in case I happen to get a taste).

5. Gum or Mints

If you’re trying to hold yourself back from over-snacking, having gum or yummy mints on hand are helpful. I like to have both a minty gum and sweet-flavored gum depending on what I’m in the mood for. I love those old school Ballpark gums and even Hubba Bubba!

6. Podcasts ready to go

Even though my phone is on me, I’m trying to get in the habit of using it to benefit me instead of wasting my time on it. Podcasts are great because they are like quick books by speakers from various backgrounds, cultures, religions, and experiences. Taking that walk at the park with baby? Grab a snack and listen to a podcast.

I’m getting ready to check out Nye Armstrong’s Podcast Series Happy People Podcast. I love her personality and how she’s comfortable in her own skin.

7. Cold drink and/or a Warm Drink

When I have the time, I like to make a quick mug of coffee and grab myself a cold carbonated water. When I don’t have the time to grab a drink at all, I make sure I at least have my water bottle. Whether it’s a hot season or a cold season, drinks make me happy and keep me hydrated while I’m out or traveling. My current go-to drink are all flavors La Croix.

8. Facial Wipes

Since giving birth to my daughter, I sweat a lot! Not only because looking after a toddler makes you sweat, but because my body is different now so I tend to get hotter than I used to. Facial wipes are great because they keep me feeling fresh, which puts me in a good mood. I sometimes use them on my hands, arms, and what not to stay fresh.

I’m really into the Say Yes brand. Refreshing and smells good!
